We’re not in Kansas anymore

This morning we woke up (later than we wanted) and took some time getting packed up, including folding the laundry we finished late last night, which I think was actually earlier this morning.  There was definitely some we’re-not-in-Kansas-anymore kind of wind going on while we packed.

We finally got packed up and headed back to Niagara Falls for one last visit.  As we started to cross the bridge we heard / felt some scraping that scared the you know what out of us.  We weren’t sure what it was, and it was a narrow bridge with no shoulder, so we continued on.  John thought we might have scraped the side of our rig, but fortunately, when we stopped, we discovered that our ‘Magic Step’ had failed to retract and we had scraped it and there was no damage!  I think both of our hearts skipped a beat when it happened, and it was a total relief to see that it was nothing serious.

We got back to Niagara and bought passes to ride the trolley.  While we were standing and waiting, there were a zillion tiny attach moths dive bombing us from every direction.  I don’t know what they are, but they are invasive little buggers!  There were also a ton of seagulls around the parking lot and near the waiting area for the trolley.  My kids had a field day chasing them off.  The best part is that they are not afraid of people and they kept coming back to the same spot, so my kids could chase them off again!

The falls were spectacular, we were at the top of Horseshoe falls this time and we stayed just long enough to get a good look, take a few pictures and get a little more mist on our sunglasses before it was time to hit the road.  There was another excessive heat warning and we were all miserably hot by the time we got back to the RV.  We fired up the generator and cranked the air conditioning while we fixed lunch before hitting the road.

Not a very eventful day, driving to the next spot.  One amazing miracle came straight from heaven when my kids napped.  BOTH OF THEM.  AT THE SAME TIME.  ON THEIR OWN!  I guess we finally figured out how to wear them out enough to sleep!

We drove the rest of the afternoon in the rain, which is my favorite, and I think we may have found Romeo Victor’s long-lost cousin:

Toward the end of the day, we found the best campground ever, West Canada Creek Campground in Poland, NY.  I already want to come back to this place.  It is lovely, with lots of trees and the owner, Mike, is so friendly!  Sadly, it rained the entire time we were there, so we didn’t get to explore all that the campground had to offer.  It is a long way from home, but I would love to find myself back here for a few more days in the future!

There were clearly some seasonal residents at this great campground, I thought this was fun!

John got us all set up in the rain, while I prepared dinner and the kids meticulously arranged their lovies in the bunk (if only they could meticulously place any other thing in this RV, that would be great).  I would say this was our first proper, sit-down dinner in the RV.  We had sausages with sauerkraut, macaroni and cheese (Gluten Free and the kids didn’t freak out!) and salad.  After dinner, we watched a little TV before heading to bed.  We listened to the rain on the roof all night long.  It was so beautiful and peaceful and we got a great night sleep!
