RV Having Fun Yet

Today was a pretty low-key day.  We knew we were hanging close to the RV (John had to work today) and the kids and I planned on making a trip into Kalispell to pick up Gramma JuJu.  I promised the kids pancakes and bacon for breakfast, so I started my day by doing up some dishes and organizing my teeny, tiny kitchen in order to cook.  As I was doing the dishes, I filled some water into the sink and when I went to turn the water off, the handle would turn off, but the water did not stop flowing.  So, John had to get out the tools and fix the sink before I could continue with breakfast.  The joys of traveling with your own home!

During this time, the kids were getting a bit restless.  The weather was nice, and I suggested that John get the Ladder Ball set out from the under storage and let the kids play in the grassy area that is part of our site.  Oh. My.  Goodness.  I bought this set a couple of years ago, but this was the first time that we brought it out.  I was dismayed to see that the balls that came with it were very hard plastic balls, rather than rubber or tennis balls, like I anticipated.  (I made the kids set it up way in the back of our site, far from any motorhomes).  First, we told the kids to follow the instructions to build the ladder, after their very interesting interpretation, I intervened and built the ladder.  Then, we discovered that the strings between the balls were so entwined with each other, we thought we would never be able to separate them, but finally, we did.

We got everything set up and the second throw into the first round and Trista’s balls ended up in the tree!

A minute or two later, Levi managed to get his balls tangled back up into a wild hornet’s nest.  I finally got that straightened out and told him to just take one set at a time and leave the others laid out on the table to avoid tangles.

Finally, the kids are playing, and I was able to come back in to clean up breakfast.  About 10 minutes later, Levi comes in crying his head off.  He is trying to speak through his tears, but he is so worked up that we can’t understand a word he is saying.  When one child comes in screaming, there is usually a suspected culprit, so we call Trista over to ask her what she did to her brother.  We reiterated that we told them to make sure to stand behind the person throwing, so that no one would get hurt.  She swore that she had nothing to do with it and did not know what had happened.  I finally got Levi to calm down just enough to explain the situation… “I was twiddling my balls, but they weren’t twiddling like they were apposed to and they hit me in the back of the head.”

As a parent, you never EVER want to laugh when your child is hurt, but in this case, I couldn’t help myself, “Levi, you were twiddling your balls and hit yourself in the head? *snicker*”

“NO! My balls WERE NOT twiddling like they were apposed to be!”

So, I kissed his head and he told me I kissed the wrong place, so I kissed the right place and told him that a bonus kiss would bring speedier healing and that was the end of ladder ball for today! (but I am still laughing about Levi’s incident)

Around lunch time, we loaded up to head to town to get Gramma.  I recently changed the navigation voice on my Waze app to Cookie Monster (which is awesome – “C is for Careful!”) and the kids and I were having fun with that on the way to the airport.  The timing worked out so perfectly that we were passing the sign for passenger pickup just as mom was texting that she was standing at the curb.  I said, “Ok kids, look for Gramma!”

Just then, we spotted her, and Levi exclaimed, “AW, Not THAT Gramma, she is a big Boo Hoo!”

Needless to say, Trista and I were cracking up as we pulled in front of Gramma.  Gramma was less amused but handled it well.  AND, Levi was more than happy to hang with her the rest of the day and was even upset when we wouldn’t let him sleep in her room tonight.

While we were in town, we made a stop at Walmart for a couple of things and I couldn’t believe how packed it was!  It was a total madhouse (on a Tuesday) and while I was trying to figure out why it was so busy at that time, a gentleman with a cart said rather loudly, “Well, must be tourist season!”  Ugh, having grown up in a tourist town, I can relate.  Hope it passes quickly!  We are very sensitive to this and always do our best to not act like tourists!

Finally, we made our way back to our lodging and helped Gramma get set up in her room, ordered some pizzas and turned in for an early evening!

Prior to setting out on these adventures, Levi had a very unfortunate burn incident on his left arm. After almost two weeks of having a red arm “just like C-3PO, we were finally able to remove the bandages today! It looks bad, but it has actually healed nicely, he will make a full recovery and we are so thankful – it could have been much worse!
