Adventuring

Billings

We packed a lot into this day! Last night when we were headed out of the park to get our dinner, I noticed a big section where there were quite a few tent campers. It wasn’t supposed to rain and there weren’t any real indications that it was going to rain, but sometime in the middle of the night it POURED. I sat straight up in bed and grabbed John’s arm and said, “Oh my goodness, there are tent campers out in this!” and he said, “And none of them looked ready for rain!” I am not sure what those folks did in the night, but that section was cleared out this morning!

I was blissfully asleep this morning, when I was rudely jerked into reality, to the sounds of tweenage boys, being wild tweenage boys on the miniature golf course RIGHT outside my window at 720am. I thought quiet hours were until 8 and I was so ready to give them the what-for, but I looked in the flyer and saw that quiet hours ended at 0700 and it was totally fine for these boys to shout and holler at the top of their lungs at this hour. Did I mention how much I ❤️KOA?

So, Trista generally sleeps up on the bunk. Trista loves dogs. Trista is a bad influence on Annie. One of the best things that we bought for our RV is a black storage cube/ottoman, this thing is multi-purpose and we use it all the time. I’ll just let this picture tell the rest of the story…

This morning, we set out to go for a hike before it got too hot. On our way out this morning, Levi proclaimed, “God is mighty like an Ender Dragon!” I am not sure exactly about this comparison, but God is mighty, so we are gonna run with it!

In Billings, is Pictograph Cave State Park and we thought that sounded pretty cool, so we decided to check it out. On the way there, our favorite song came on the radio, One Margarita by Luke Bryan. I don’t know why this is our jam, but it came on once in the RV while I was fixing a meal and we started dancing and now we just kind of crank it up and get moving whenever it comes on. Well, almost everyone.

The drive out to the park was beautiful, as was the park itself. There is a loop trail that goes around the park and up to each of the caves, pretty steep in places, but it was a great little adventure!

At the beginning of the trail, there was a bright blue bird perched on a sign. Something startled him as I tried to snap a picture, but he swooped down and frolicked in the grass trying to catch the TONS of grasshoppers that were jumping in the tall grass. We stood and watched for a while, it was so fun to watch!

There was a romantic little grove in the trees… the kids yell, “EW! No Mushy Mushy!” but Trista is the one that took this picture…

Still in love after all these years!

After our hike, we found ourselves, yet again, at Walmart! We promised Trista a cookie and she could not wait long enough to get her mask off to dive right in! To be fair, it was wrapped around her pony tail on one side so it would fit right.

Funny story, when I was pregnant with Trista, the swelling in my feet was horrible. I waited until after work one day when they were at their worst and went to Famous Footwear to find something that I could wear. I ended up with a pair of men’s flip flops (which are now comically large), but they got me through. John (who had always hated flip flops) kept stealing them to grab the mail, take out the trash or whatever. I told him if he liked them, he could get a pair and he just said, “They will be mine soon enough!” and they were. He liked these flip flops so much that he has continued to buy a new pair every year or so. The most recent pair was completely blown out and there happened to be a Famous Footwear in the parking lot AND I had a coupon, so I went in to see about a new pair. They had them, but they had 1 pair left and they were not in John’s size. *Luckily* (sarcasm font) there was another Famous Footwear IN THE MALL and they had 8 pair in stock, in John’s size. Yay. So, we pulled around to the mall and I ran in and it took me forever to find the place (and it isn’t that big of a mall), I completed my mission and asked for the closest exit to the outside world. As I was charging toward the mall exit, anxious for fresh air (if masks are effective, you shouldn’t be able to choke on that much perfume in the mall and I will stop there), I looked over and saw this:

Hey! Lookie there, I know that cute kid on that poster! We happen to know the owners of this small chain from church and school and we wish them great success in this endeavor!

Back outside with the shoes, I am DONE shopping and ready to head on back to the POOL! Somehow, I managed to get in a nap and get John to agree to do the laundry while I went swimming with the kids.

Something scary happened during our pool time. Thankfully, I am a very attentive parent and took swift action. The child involved has asked me not to post the story on the blog and I will respect those wishes, but please always keep a close eye on your kiddos around water! Don’t expect anyone else to do it for you. There were other parents much closer than I was who did nothing.

After our water rescue (which of course happened right after I had gotten myself dry enough to think about cooking dinner) we headed into to fix some dinner and play a round of miniature golf.

After golf, we of course had to have ice cream! It was delicious and I was glad it was our last night here, because I certainly don’t need to be staying somewhere that has delicious ice cream 20 yards away from my doorstep!
