Today we got up and set out to explore the Wild West town of Cody, WY! Last night I ordered combination tickets for the trolley tour and the Buffalo Bill museum. We started off with the Trolley tour to get a feel for the town and see what all we wanted to do.

Starting off with the trolley tour was a great idea (Thanks, Joanne). It gave us a great tour of Cody and a lot of fun facts and history of the area. Wade and Carisa (our tour guides) were excellent and made it a lot of fun!
After the tour, we tried to find some lunch, but ultimately decided to head back to the RV and eat there. Once we got back, it became apparent that one member of our party could REALLY use a nap. We were a little disappointed to lose an afternoon of sightseeing, but sometimes naps are much more important!
We pretty much lazed the afternoon away until it was almost time to go to the shootout in front of the Irma Hotel. We were SO excited about this gun fight, I paid an extra couple of dollars for us to have reserved front row seats for the show!

We got downtown a little early and wandered around a bit.

Trista trying to do a magic show for Levi. I quickly switched the tables on her and swiped her money bag! I hid it so fast, that she genuinely didn’t know what happened and I kept telling her, ‘Magic’. Finally, I had a chance to pass it off to John and she kept searching and searching, but could not find it. Sometimes there are great perks to parenthood!

So, one of the things that we keep telling the kids is that we are going to have some experiences that are so cool we can hardly stand it and we are going to have some experiences that are so boring we can hardly stand it and many in between, and we aren’t going to know which is which beforehand. Whether they are good experiences or bad experiences, you will take something away from each of them. Now, this was a great lesson along those lines. We were so excited about this shootout, we thought it was going to be so cool and it SUCKED. It was so bad that we wanted to leave, but really kinda couldn’t since we had those fancy seats, front and center!
So, they say that Cody sees half a million tourists each season. This is Buffalo Bill’s town, that he created as a tourist destination. This is in front of his hotel and they do this 6 nights a week. Buffalo Bill was an entertainer. We were so disappointed. The sound quality was terrible, there really was no plot, I can’t even say that it was too campy to be bad, it was just bad. The gun blasts were painfully loud and it felt like amateur night at acting class. At the end, the cast invited kids to come up and take pictures or whatever and I had four, big, brown eyes looking right at me saying, “NO!”
We headed back to the RV to fix some dinner. It should not be surprising that Trista made friends with almost all of the dogs in this RV park. There was one old dog across the way that was the SWEETEST, but when she would come over, we kept Annie away because Annie likes to play and this dog was so frail that we were afraid Annie might hurt her bad legs being friendly. Ironically, there were two chihuahuas staying next to us, a dark female and a lighter male that had the exact same names corresponding with the same gender and colors as the Great Danes that live behind us at home. Trista could not believe it. While the kids had fun playing with these other dogs, Annie remained perched in the doorway giving us the most evil glares she could muster!
