Buffalo Bill town

Is nothing sacred? This morning, I went over to the shower house to take a shower and decided to use the restroom before heading back. I no sooner sit on the pot, than see this head, fully under the stall door and hear, “Mom?” I literally did not know they were there until Annie’s head was practically in my lap in a public restroom.

Even though there are times when the togetherness is overwhelming, we mostly still get along (most of the time).

First order of the day was a trip to the dam. Before we could even get to the dam, Trista said, “We’re leaving tomorrow.”

Levi said, “Good!”

I asked, “Levi, good that we are leaving tomorrow?”

“Yes. Because I don’t want to be in Buffalo Bill town anymore.”

Back to the dam… Buffalo Bill dam was the tallest dam in the world when it was completed in 1910 and its construction style was used for the Hoover dam. The original dam is all concrete with no rebar.

When you walk out onto the dam, on one side you look down about 20′ or so to the water in the reservoir and on the other side, you look 350′ down the face of the dam. Levi kept sticking closer to the reservoir side and saying, “I like this side MUCH better!”

On the reservoir side, all of this driftwood stacks up against the dam and once a year they have to crane it out on big pallets.

It was fascinating to learn about the construction of this dam and the brutal weather conditions they had to work in to complete it.

Got some new bling for Romeo Victor! I am not a huge sticker person (because John says I am binary, either no stickers or ALL OF THE STICKERS), but I actually found one that I had to have!

I had to take this picture to go with my sticker!

After the dam, we FINALLY headed over to the Buffalo Bill museum. We have a two day ticket (you need at least that much time to do it justice) and just a few hours with which to explore.

We spent most of our time in the Buffalo Bill section and really enjoyed learning about him and those who traveled with him in his show and also seeing the gallery of outlaws (because bad guys always seem to be interesting) and then we went over to the gun section. They have an amazing collection of artifacts (there is a sign that they do not refer to these as weapons!)

We had to leave to head over to the Cody Cattle Company for dinner and a show!

For this trip, we allotted a certain amount of the kids birthday/Christmas/whatever money to dole out in certain intervals for spending money on this trip. Levi fell in love with a Jackelope that he was intent to rescue and while we were able to hold him off overnight (expecting him to move on to something else) he was intent to get this Jackelope, so we stopped for a Jackelope rescue on our way to dinner!

From there, we went to the Cody Cattle Company for dinner and a show, both of which were excellent! Great folks, great food, great music… I would highly recommend this experience!

I don’t want to spoil all of their fun, but our favorite joke of the night was when they were talking about the food and they said, “Now we know many of you are visiting and staying in tight quarters such as campers, tents, hotel rooms and the like… we are serving beans tonight, but we want you to know we took great care to cook all those beans upside down, so they’ll only give you hiccups!”
