Adventuring

Saturday – Home. ☹

Today is the day that our trip really does come to an end.  This is a hard day and not one that I have been looking forward to.  Not one member of this family wants to go home.

We took our time packing up, it was obvious that no one wants this trip to end.

We had a little fun with Trista by singing the Small World song while we worked!

This sign gave us a laugh as we pulled out of the RV park.  Check out the last item on the checklist!

Our first stop was a gas station very close to the RV Park.  I went in to get a drink for John and I and he was filling gas, we told the kids that they needed to stay inside the RV.  I was trying to get drinks, along with some other folks and it quickly became clear that this gas station was not having a good morning.  They were out of coffee, all 8 or so kinds.  The Coke had run out, as well as all of the creamer in the dispensers.  They were scrambling to find enough employees to get everything going again and John comes in, with a frantic look on his face and is talking to an employee.  I can’t hear what he is saying, but I can see the urgency on his face.  I finally make eye contact with him and ask what happened.  He said, “I was out there filling gas and a dark gray Saab just drove across the parking lot with no one in it!”

It was stopped by a curb next to the gas station sign, but the scary part was that it was right next to the propane tank and John said at first it was headed right for that tank.

The employee made an announcement to try and find the owner and no one responded.  Finally, a very disheveled older gentleman came up to the counter with a case of beer and noticed that his car was not where he had left it.  The store told him what happened.  He set his beer down and said, “Let me go take care of that real quick.”  I looked from him to the beer to the car to the manager and she looked back at me and nodded.  I wish I knew the outcome of this story, but we didn’t stick around to find out!

The rest of the day was filled with a whole lot of nothing, nothing with bad roads in Oklahoma and a whole lot of nothing-nothing in Colorado.

We made a decision that we needed dinner and agreed to stop at the next rest area or pull out that we found. Where we were driving is full of nothing and we were talking about how we kind of expected to see an elephant or zebra running across the plain.

After what seemed like forever (long enough that I was glad we had our toilet with us and wouldn’t have had to find one) John made an exclamation.  I thought he said ‘cow’ what he actually said was ‘town’ and I am sitting there looking for a bovine!  HA!

We had a quick dinner in our rig in Hugo, CO and pulled into Brighton around 8pm.  It took us about a half an hour to get out.  John got out and went and turned the heater on – after all of the crazy weather on our trip we came home to the first recorded snowfall of the season!  Thankfully it did not stick around, but it sure was cold.  The rest of us stayed in the RV for about a half an hour.

This is in my driveway.

I have so much enjoyed this time with my family, all four of us together 24/7 for 43 days.  I know it was vacation, but we still had work and schoolwork and laundry and dishes and cooking and shopping and all that other stuff.  Before we left we were looking for a bigger house and now we are trying to figure out how to move into a 30 ft RV!  Lots to think about, no quick decisions.  There will definitely be some changes in the House of Carkeet.  Stay tuned…
